Provinzialkonzil; 1480 (5. Juli)
A provincial council, presided over by archbishop Octavian (1478-1513) was held on 5 July and decreed the union of the church of Galtrim (Meath) with the monastery of Newtown near Trim. The most notable feature of this council was the presence at it of William Sherwood, the bishop of Meath who had been censured by the Armagh chapter only five years before, but who was praised in exceptionally warm terms at this council, a sign that the king’s government had overcome the opposition it had faced in Armagh and could now count on the archbishop’s support.
